Winter Play! 25

Mona Pendleton | August 29, 2009 @ 11:47 PM | , , ,

Good Morning Girls! I hope everyone is having a great weekend! Have you all been working on your Use-It! challenge #25 Boo Bags? :) Remember: You can't win unless you play! If you would like to see some examples for inspiration, please feel free to visit my Cyber friend Eve, or the Use-It! challenge site to see what others have already created! (If you missed it, you can click here to see mine). Can't wait to see what you girls come up with! :)

This week's colors from the Color Throwdown Challenge #57 inspired me to create this fun Winter Wishes card! The 3 lil' people in this stamp set reminds me of myself with 2 of my sisters tobagganing as kiddos! Growing up in the "snowbelt" of Upstate New York, we would have loooong snowy winters that provided great conditions for tobagganing. Off we would trudge with our tobaggan in tow for hours of fun :) I can't wait to send these cards off to those 2 sisters! The Sketch layout comes from Taylor's, TESC80. If you are looking for inspiration, please click on over to any of these sites & take a peek at what the DT girls & other participants have created! :) I am trying something new with this post. A few girls have asked me to share my creative process in a tutorial sort of way. Please let me know is this is too much "mumbo jumbo" or if you like the way I wrote things out? I would greatly appreciate your feedback :) Be Sweet!

Here is my Winter Play card:

Here is how I made it: After stamping the image with Memento Tuxedo Black ink on Neenah paper, I colored it in using the following Copic markers.

After coloring the stamped image, I positioned a Spellbinders Circle over it, to get a nice centered cut. Then I cut out the pink scalloped circle, piercing holes around the circumfrence. Using the Cuttlebug Swiss Dots EF with the Whisper White paper & the Snowflake EF with the Bashful Blue, I put those through the Big Shot Express to emboss. While using the die cutting machine, I also: cut out the snowflakes in the various colors using the Cuttlebug snowflake die, cut the scalloped edge using the Spellbinders Scalloped Rectangle die then paper pierced in the scallops. After cutting this scallop edge, I layered it with the strip of distressed Whisper White piece.

Upon completing the die cutting & embossing, I was ready to assemble the layers. Layers are as follows: the Pixie Pink card measures 4 1/4" x 5 1/2", Whisper White 4 1/8" x5 3/8", Certainly Celery 4" x 5 1/4", Snowflake embossed Bashful Blue 3 7/8" x 2 1/2", Center strip 1 1/4", Swiss Dot embossed Whisper White 1 3/4". After layering, I wrapped center strip with Green Dotted ribbon & tied & attached stamped image/scalloped center. The Winter Wishes was printed on Whisper White CS with my printer then punched out with the SU tag punch. I embossed this tag front as well. Layered the tag, used SU cord to attach tag to ribbon. Attached the die cut snowflakes with brads then adhered the card front to the card.

I stamped the inside with a snowflake stamp using VersaMark, Filigree white embossing powder & heat set with heat gun.

There you have it! Please feel free to leave a comment & tell me what you think about my tutorial! What would you do differently?

Hi Girls! Do any of you play the You Have Been Boo'd Game in your neighborhood or at work? If not you should! It is a way to have fun with your neighbors / co-workers! (I work in an Operating Room so we all have to change into scrubs provided at work. We have assigned lockers, (aka: our front doors), in the locker-room so that's where we put our Boo bags!) As the winner of the Use-It! challenge #23, I am honored to be presenting you girls with this week's Use-It! challenge #25 project! My Boo Bag! :)

Here are the details: Grab ANY paper bag that you have hangin' around the house & decorate it using a HALLOWEEN theme! Simple right? Get to it & Use-It! then link it to Mr. Linky on the Use-It! challenge site! :) Thanks for looking at my Boo-Bag, I am looking forward to seeing ALL of your creations & I'd love to know if you play You Have Been Boo'd? Be Sweet! Here is mine:

Ingredients Used:

Stamps: SU Bitty Boos

Paper: DCWV glitter & DP paper, SU Certainly Celery, Lavendar Lace, Only Orange, Gable Green, Summer Sun, Kraft, Whisper White

Ink: VersaMagic Pretty Petunia, Mango Madness, Aloe Vera, Key Lime, Midnight Black

Sprinkles: generic white gift bag, chipboard, clear embossing powder & brads, Cricut Tags, Bags, Boxes and More & Base Camp cartridges, Sizzix dies, generic chipboard, Offray ribbon

INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO PLAY THE YOU HAVE BEEN BOO'D GAME!

How to "Boo":

Supplies
1) Copy the poem (see below) and instructions below it onto a sheet of paper.
2) Print off a sign with a ghost (find a drawing online) and write the word "BOO" on it.
3) Gather treats in a basket or bag.

Drop off the items from the supply list on the front porch of a neighbor. Be careful not to let them see you. The game is more fun when it’s a surprise.

Here's the poem:

"You've Been Boo'd"
The air is cool the season fall
Soon Halloween will come to all
The spooks are after things to do
In fact, a spook brought this to you
"BOO" is a shield from the witching hour
Just hang it up and watch its power
On your front door is where it works
It wards off spooks and scary jerks
The treats that came with crypted note
Are yours to keep, enjoy them both
The power comes when friends like you
Will copy this and make it two
Then others here among our friends
Will give warm fuzzies that do not end
We'll all have smiles upon our face
No one will know who "BOO'd" whose place
Just two short days to work your spell
Or a big zap will strike your tail
And don't forget a nifty treat,
Like something cute or something sweet
Please join the fun, let's really hear it
And spread some "BOO's" and Halloween spirit.

Instructions
Please keep it going by following these directions:
1. Enjoy your treat.
2. Place the BOO sign on your front door or visible in a window.
3. Within 2 days, make 2 copies of this note, make 2 treats & 2 BOO signs.
4. Secretly deliver to 2 neighbors/friends without a BOO sign.
5. Keep an eye on nearby front doors to see how far and fast it spreads by Halloween.

REMEMBER: Have fun!

August PTI Blog Hop! 76

Mona Pendleton | August 24, 2009 @ 10:08 PM |

Hi Girls! It's Papertrey Ink Blog Hop Time! :) This month, Papertrey Ink challenged us papercrafters to create a project inspired by ANY aspect of fall. When I think of fall, I think of my childhood growing up in upstate Western New York where my parents had an apple orchard. My sisters & I would have to pick bushel baskets of what seemed to be an endless supply of apples. Then the preparation process would follow. We would have to wash, peel & slice the apples so we could help my mom: bake apple pies, make applesauce & can jars & jars for the looong winter months! I still LOVE apples & bake one heck of an apple pie! :) With that being said, I chose to create a fall themed gift basket ensemble using PTI's My Timeless Template Pack-A-Picnic template. Wouldn't this make a great teacher's gift? If spicy apple cider doesn't suit your fancy, the aroma created when simmering mulling spices will surely create a warm fuzzy feelin' in your home! :) I'd love to know if you enjoy apples, mulling spices or both?! Thanks so much for hopping by! Be Sweet!

Ingredients Used:

PTI's My Timeless Template Pack-A-Picnic template

Stamps: PTI Everyday Classics, 2008 Holiday Tag Collection, SU Definitely Decorative Branches, Itty Bitty Backgrounds

Paper: PTI Kraft, SU Old Olive, Very Vanilla, Real Red

Ink: SU Old Olive, Real Red, Chocolate Chip

Sprinkles: Spellbinders Scalloped Rectangle & Circle Nesties, EK Success punches, PTI twine, American Crafts buttons, Offray ribbon
